Special Educational Needs are defined in the Blurton High School SEN Policy. This is available on request from the school.
The
SENCO and a team of Learning Support Assistants work across KS3 and
KS4. A tutor is also used to work with those students with a specific
learning difficulty. In KS3 a variety of programmes are used to address
students needs. These include:
- Toe by Toe
- Alpha to Omega
- Social Use of Language Programme
- Simultaneous Oral Spelling
- Hickey (SPLD)
- SRA Corrective Reading
The
team also makes use of computer programmes such as Word Shark
(spelling) and Number Shark (numeracy). Pupils are tested for reading
and spelling ages.
For KS4 our main aim is to support students with SEN in completion of course work.
Exam dispensations are obtained for students who are not able to access the curriculum due to literacy difficulties.
